OK ~ so what you’re NOT seeing here is that every single room in our new home is stacked high with boxes begging to be unloaded with the exception of the kitchen.
What you ARE seeing here, though, are my child-like jammies that frankly were at the top on the box marked “Jamie’s closet” that I torn into last night just so I’d have something comfy to sleep in.
… also, I’m trying to connect with my dogs on a deeper level. … So far it’s not working.
So it took nearly two full days to pack and move us into our home. And as I am about to dive into that *fun* process of unpacking everything and determining just where exactly everything should go, I wanted to ask for your advice.
WHERE do you start? I’m thinking the kitchen, then tackle the bedrooms followed by the other living areas … but are any of you professional un-packers and/or happen to move often? REALLY ~ I’d like to know …
… because this playful, little kitchen party that I’m having with my dogs is about to come to an abrupt end.
SIGH. Guidance, please.

*** BTW, I do plan on showing our entire new space via video once we are settled. We incorporated many new design ideas and did some very clever things with our smaller space (thanks to our FAB designer) that I’m excited to share!
LOooovveee the kitchen!
Oh wow, gorgeous kitchen Jamie! And the view–amazing.
You need to come see it!
What a gorgeous and cool space! Can’t wait to see the rest.
Thank you, Dawn!
Doggies don’t know what to do with the new space! They just remember the old house. Give them time to get used to it!!!
Incredible views from your New space….can’t wait! Love the French Bulldog PJ’s!
They’re so “adult like”, aren’t they Mitchie? We couldn’t quite figure out our heating system last night so I also slept with my coat on. #GoodTimes
Well, it is breathtaking! I failed to mention, I have moved a time or two and usually I tackle one room at a time, one box at a time and I think the kitchen is a great start! Reason, you want to save the closet and or closets for last so that you can really be thoughtful on placement! 🙂 Enjoy and I can not wait to see the finished product!
LOVE your cool new space! When can I come visit?! 😀

You just call me, GF!
As someone who has moved four times in five years, I always do the kitchen first. It is the easiest there to figure out where things go. It’s a big job so you feel accomplished!
Have fun in your new home!
Eek! That’s a lot, Cathy! I’m starting with the kitchen this AM. (After a quick grocery run)
So happy for you! I would love to see your new home. Congratulations, and love the pj’s.
Is your new home in Albuquerque? What are you looking out on? Start with the bedroom and bathroom. There’s always restuarants and take out!
Our living area looks west at the city. (a pleasant change as I’ve been staring at the mountains from the other side (east mountains) for nearly 16 years. SO excited last night to se our FAB-U-LOUS sunsets!!! Kitchen faces south with a great view of Uptown.
Kitchen, bathroom basics, and setting up the bed are my go-to tasks after a move so you can eat, sleep and shower right away!
Bed we set up last night — but only box spring and mattress on the floor as we are having a beautiful mirrored and tufted fabric wall (to the ceiling) still being made. Alas, I wait ….
Beautiful kitchen and view! Anxious to see the completed look!
Jaime, First of all .. I LOVE your new space! It always takes a little bit, for everyone, fur babies included, to adjust to the new space and surroundings. We moved into our new home (which we built ) two and a half years ago…with two fur babies as well. Very exciting but also a BIT overwhelming. Kitchen is ALWAYS first and is a big task … but you feel so good when it’s done. Next are bathrooms, a relatively small task but an easy done ✅. Organize wisely as you go. Our home is very open so the great room open to the kitchen was a must do so that it APPEARS you are settled rather living in a sea of boxes!! Hang something on a wall, it makes you feel good 😊
Master suite and closets very well thought out … and you are basically done! Have fun with it! I can’t wait to see your finished new space …. it will be beautiful and comfortable for you to settle into.
Great advice, Brenda! It’s been SO long since I moved last and this is just smaller space. For sure starting with kitchen but had not thought about bathrooms next as my brain wants to dive into my new shoe wall!
*** we are hanging a few pics later today just to make it feel more like “us”!
Well!! Blu and Valentino look to me that they are already at home!!! I have moved so many times that I just take it one-day-at-a-time, bounce from room-to-room, never finishing anything, until——one day, it just looks right. Then, I shift stuff around again, toss some, buy some, then forget it all. But, soon, having down-sized and all, it is time to repurchase stuff, then dump some things, then just read a book, and forget it!!!! Yep!!!!!
Yay!! You finally made it!!!!
Can’t wait to see what it looks like once you unpack everything.
Wow Jaime, welcome to the world of moving! I’ve moved 11 times and in one month it will be 12 and hopefully done. I always start in the kitchen, that’s the area that needs more brain power for organization. I cannot stand the smell of cardboard, lots of anxiety associated with that smell so we power through until all boxes are OUT! Good luck, growing up it was always a dream of mine to live in the canyon, who knew the military was going to take me away.
Missing NM,
Carol
Wholly Cow, Carol! I forgot that you told me this.
I agree – power through the kitchen!
It’s amazing, but just remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day!!

Kitchen & bathroom would be my top priority! I am loving what I see so far and I can’t wait to see the video!
Love your new kitchen! Much happiness in your new home.
Ugh I’ve this to come….
Although I must admit I am quite looking forward to the unpacking stage, in a strange way. Will you stay in your cute pj’s the entire time? I think that’s a great idea! 😉 The kitchen looks stunning btw Jamie xx
I seem to be unraveling a thread here. Found you through Shauna @Chic Over 50 then…Susan over @The Midlife Fashionista…followed you all in N.Y. at the beautiful Crosby Hotel, where I’ve stumbled upon you. Is this how “it” happens? As far as unpacking…it’s not going anywhere, enjoy the view, and the dogs. ☺️
Hellllloooo, Cheryl! You’re hanging out with many of my favorite friends. Thanks for following along and you’re SO right …. this stuff doesn’t “go” anywhere!
