You all remember Valentino, right?!
You first met him here, he recently made an appearance in my latest video and he’s our cute, SWEET little new addition to the fam.
He’s also become a huge pain in the you know what because Valentino has suddenly discovered a love for eating rocks! Yessiree Bob ~ I’ve got myself a rock eater on my hands.
So today’s post is less about fashion (although I do love my open shoulder top) and more about asking if any of you have encountered this issue before.
And if so …. can you help a fellow dog lover out? Guidance, please. #Help!
Can’t really offer any help with your problem, but his collar is stunning!
Look at that face!
Collar ‘rocks’ and I am lovin’ the cold shoulder look! Lots of internet posts on why dogs eat rocks (behavioral, mineral deficiencies etc_) watch his teeth too!
Thanks, Veronica – I’ve had so many dogs over the years but none that eat rocks like this little dude.
Wondering what you wear for an undergarment with this top.
strapless bra … (sad face)
Might be best to speak with your vet or a dog behaviorist.
Ours loves rocks 😒 Must think they’re ice cubes—he loves those too!!
Sometimes a little squirt of water will help break the habit. But only if you can catch him in the act!!
As long as they’re not big rocks!😜
caught him with a big one once. Let’s just say he was in trouble with Mommy.
He is soooo adorable Jamie! I’m sorry I have no experience with a rock eating dog but it doesn’t sound good. My Dads old dog used to eat weird objects & cost my Dad an absolute fortune in vet bills having operations to remove the bigger ones. I hope you sort it soon.
Love the outfit too! xx
Just love him to pieces, and he will soon lose any interest in gobbling rocks!!!
Hey, Jamie….
Hit me up offline. I have some suggestions and some trainers that might be resources for you.
I will. I’m home most of time working but when not home, we have a covered dog run so he and our other dog can go outside… however, its covered with gravel. Ugh!
Hello Jamie, it’s your Missing NM friend! I have a miniature Dachshund, Lola, who has been through two surgeries to remove rocks from her intestines. Lola loved to plan her endeavors when my husband was deployed, yay fun times. I used to think she was digging in the rocks to get at the dripers for water but have since realized she was going after lizards in the rocks (AZ has lots of them not sure about the Sandias). This may not help but you may need to muzzle your cutie. Our vet said a third surgery would not be an option. The military moved us from that house so problem solved . . . For now!
Hi Carol – we are moving in a couple months to an urban condo so hopefully will not have to worry about him eating rocks but I know what you’re saying about the muzzle.
I’d consult a good vet to find an answer or a referral to an animal behaviorist.
Your striped blouse with delicate embroidery is so fresh and pretty!
Thank you, Marilee! He’s actually not as “bad” as he was — introduction to new chewie toys have helped a lot — but I have to stay on him constantly. (*** I don’t mind- just wishing he would out grow this!)
Hi Jamie,
After reading some of the comments about Valentino eating rocks, it could just be a phase he’s going through. I do like the idea of chew sticks; that could create a distraction from the rocks. I give them to our feline kids Ari’el and Brenda (tortoise shell). Also, I sprinkle fresh catnip all around their scratching post; for some reason it makes them “wild!” His vet could also provide some solutions. I remember when Ari’el was a baby. She chewed on my book lamp (here teeth marks embellished it so much, I had to buy a new one). She’s grown out of it completely and moved on to her next feline exploit. Animals, like humans go through phases. A temporary affinity for rocks is one of them. I’d suggest you continue to monitor him; so long as he doesn’t swallow any, he should be okay (so adorable!). Hope this helps to ease your mind. Love your cold shoulder top, silver concho earrings and Valentino’s turquoise collar!
