I’m not really a book reader.  I’m more of a magazine article skimmer, rapid page flipper and internet surfer.  As a child, I loved reading books but as an adult I’m often lacking something ~ TIME.

But when a girlfriend turned me on to local author, Katie K. Snapp’s book Brave Transitions,  I allowed myself the time to not only read it, but also the time to focus a bit on myself.

Brave Transitions is a woman’s guide for maintaining your composure through all the various changes you go through in your work and personal lives.  Women experience, react to and learn from these transitions quite differently than men do.

And so,  (just being honest here)  when my girlfriend mentioned Katie’s book about life’s transitions to me and to a small group of girlfriends, my first reaction was …

… uugghh.

But let me tell you, my reaction couldn’t have been more wrong.

Firstly, this book is so cleverly written that Katie makes all these challenges and changes seem really quite manageable and you’ll even find a few fun references to fashion.  Such as when Katie writes:  “Transitions must be managed. Think of them as part of an outfit. You wouldn’t just grab any belt without thinking through the shoe choice.  Jeez.”

Yeah … Jeez.  Who would do that?

Katie speaks to you in this book like a normal, REAL person. The dialogue is comfortable and I really enjoyed reading it … and, let’s face it, we will all find ourselves dealing with some form of life change (no matter what our age is) … why wouldn’t we want a little help?

I was finding myself pulling this book out everywhere because, you know, Katie talks to you like she’s a girlfriend.

The kind of girlfriend that you can laze around and be able to share all your “stuff” with.

She also allows you to meet one of her best girlfriends, Anne, who chimes in from time to time with anecdotal stories that are relative to the subject matter covered in each chapter and Anne … cracked me up!

I did snort out loud … TWICE.  #KneeSlappers

The book is actually a pretty quick read and at the end of each chapter you will find an exercise where Katie might encourage you to:  “Give yourself positive feedback” or to “Assume the position.  The position you were in when you made the decision to move forward”.

I suggest you do these exercises when you really have a moment to yourself …

like when your dog is snuggling on your lap because you know you’re not going anyplace for a while.
