When I was growing up, I hardly ever stayed inside. I would spend hours outside playing. I’d catch fireflies in a glass jar, run up and down the block with some stick in my hand, chalk up the sidewalks for a game of hopscotch and beat all my friends at jacks. Looking back at this time of my life, I would have to say that my fondest memories were those spent with my sister playing in our backyard playhouse.
Our playhouse was (as one might predict) a castle…with the key words here being “Our House” ~ NO PARENTS ALLOWED! In OUR playhouse, we would put on performances for all those lucky kids in our neighborhood, we’d read and sing songs, pretend to cook meals made with leaves and whatever we found in the yard and I would always make my famous mud pie for all the people in our village.
Yep ~ those were some really great times.
Have you ever thought about your children (or grandchildren) having the same kind of experience? Well, I’ve got some super fun… about to explode with excitement… news for you: THEY CAN!
Hey ~ lookie at me!
Just like old times.
Is it weird that I’m having so much fun…ALL BY MYSELF?
I wondered why I woke up sore.
Now WHO wants a big ‘ole slice of mud pie?
So what exactly is going on here? Mark your calendars, folks, and join me at the Parade of Playhouses to benefit New Mexico Appleseed. There will be 10 playhouses to consider: 9 to bid on and 1 being raffled.

The super cool playhouse I am playing in was designed by local architects and designers Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, built by Jaynes Corporation and sponsored by Summit Electric Supply. Here’s the drawing of the playhouse:
Wait ’til you see it in person!
The date of this amazing event is Friday, May 2, 2014 and will be held at the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo. All of the playhouses will be on display at the BioPark Zoo starting on April 25.
Be sure to secure YOUR tickets now… just clicky clicky…and you can learn more about all of the terrific things New Mexico Appleseed does for our State and your community simply by going here.
So see you at the gala! I’ll be there ~ unless I get stuck in the pipe.
What fun! And lovely memories, I know…
I have no place to put a playhouse, but if I win, it’ll be donated to a worthwhile cause.
Great event ! Thank you ! PR
Do I even have a chance at the raffle? Someone I know tends to win them all. 😉
Oh gosh! This one really brings back all the great memories–every kid should have a castle!!!
and make mud pies!
The most creative and fun event in ABQ for a long time. See ya there.
Thank you for this darling piece!!!!! Lots of chances to win.. The raffle is the best. Then we are giving away tons of things at the event and, of course, the auction!
Everyone needs to get their tickets!
I remember so well schlepping that castle-playhouse over the walls into the back-yard in California and putting it together. It replaced the ol’ log-cabin playhouse I earlier assembled one Christmas eve. This new castle had a top deck where one could defend oneself from evil people, apparently including parents. Memories are wonderful things!!
