When my girlfriends and I get together, we often talk about who we think are the “well dressed” men in our community…and there’s one name that always comes up.
If you haven’t yet met him, allow me to introduce you to Ian Anderson, Publisher of Albuquerque Business First. Yes, of course, we all admire his business successes – however we also admire his terrific fashion sense.
There is something to be said about a man who pays attention to the “details” and it turns out that Ian comes from a long lineage of stylish dressers. Ian’s great-grandfather was a watch maker, and every picture he has of him shows a hard-working, yet well-coiffed man. All of the men in his family are blessed this way.
Ian genetically has the “dapper gene.”
I asked Ian if he would be willing to let me toss a few random fashion questions at him. Let’s see what fun, fashion facts we can learn about him:
MTT: Favorite local store?
Ian: Robert R. Bailey
MTT: What’s the last fashion item you’ve purchased?
Ian: I scored a major deal recently at Dillards – a great Hugo Boss topcoat.
(MTT: yes, I asked…it’s three-quarter length.)
MTT: Is there a particular outfit that your wife loves to see you in?
Ian: Any outfit that includes me wearing a sport coat.
MTT: I see that you can rock a pocket square…any other accessories that you like to sport?
Ian: I do confess to a huge scarf collection. Can’t wait to wear them.
MTT: Plain front or pleated? Cuff or no cuff?
Ian: Such an easy question. Plain front – no cuff.
MTT: Have you ever had a perm?
Ian: No.
(MTT…whew!)
MTT: What did you wear to your prom?
Ian: I wore a tuxedo with a vest and I had a silver hand-tie bowtie.
(MTT- although I did not ask, I suspect that Ian managed to tie this bowtie all on his own- a skill not everyone can do.)
MTT: A guy you fashionably admire?
Ian: George Clooney. Anything he wears is classic.
MTT: Is it OK for people to wear pajamas in public?
Ian: That would be NO.
MTT: Should your socks match your pants or your shoes?
Ian: Your socks should match your pants. Although, socks are a great way to express yourself.
MTT: What’s something we will never see you wearing?
Ian: Crocs.
MTT: Fashion advice for men on an interview?
Ian: It’s less about what you wear and more about how you wear it. Fit really is key. Also, you’ve got to make sure your clothes are ironed and your shoes are polished.
MTT: Worst outfit you’ve ever worn- that you’re willing to share?
Ian: Remember the trend years ago when guys wore 3-4 different colored polo shirts and you’d flip up all the different collars? Then you would top those polos with a long sleeve shirt and a big quilted vest. I wore that.
(MTT: yep, I remember that look. I’m guessing you really can’t run, walk or sit in that outfit. Listen, if it took Ian wearing that to get to where his is today— it was well worth it.)
Because all we can say to you, Ian, is BRAVO! You’re doing a great job! (and you’re a really good sport as well.)
You found this guy in New Mexico ……. WOW !!!! PR
Great interview! Ian is a well-dressed guy by necessity… All the functions he attends because of his role with the newspaper. Definitely someone to model after for those NM gents trying to not look like schlubs.
Please keep these interviews coming, MTT!
Clearly one of the best dressed in town!
Girl, there is NOTHING sexier than a well-dressed man. They are few and far between in the Land of Enchantment. Congrats on a terrific interview. Seeing Ian Anderson’s photos is almost enough to make me want to attend a networking event in hopes of spying him.
Agreed!
Please…all you men out there….take heed! 😉
yes, please
My husband wears Crocs all the time. Dear lord.
They may need to “magically” fall into the trash….(!)
That’s one studly publisher! His wife is a lucky lady!
Hey! What about my 30 year-old silk Gianpaulo, Cavelli, and Ferrini Italian suits from Robert Bailey?? And my Ermenegildo-Zegna ties as well! This mean I am passe’ ??? Pathetic?? What!!
You’ve still got it!
I agree with this completely. Ian always looks sharp. Another guy that always looks sharp every time I see him is Bob Cornelius, CEO of 90 Degrees. He’s definitely one of the best dressed younger executives in New Mexico. Maybe you can interview him at some point!
Great idea!!! Thanks!
So, I’m guessing my Berkies and jeans aren’t cutting it … oh, well. I think I do have a tie or two in a drawer somewhere …
go crazy with that tie!
“Clean shirt, new shoes
and I don’t know where I am goin’ to.
Silk suit, black tie,
I don’t need a reason why.
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
coz every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.”
Despite their attire even ZZ Top knows how to drive the girls crazy!
This song’s got nothin’ on Ian!
